Up early this morning to find that we are, in fact, right across the street from the famous Waikiki Beach! Warm, humid and you can smell the flowers. John went for a two miler before breakfast, which was the hotel buffet (In Hawaiian, its called a "Boofay"). While S&M adventured off on their own, we took the tour bus over to the Pearl Harbor WWII Museum and the visit to the USS Arizona memorial. We re-learned our WWII history - such as why the US Pacific Fleet was in Pearl Harbor in the first place. The bus tour also took us through the Veteran's Cemetery, known as The Punchbowl, -very pretty! The driver also showed us a variety of significant buildings.
Returning to our hotel about 2:30, we had time for stroll on the beach and cocktails with S&M at the hotel outside bar, with a great view of Diamond Head.
After a quick refresh, we gussied up and took another tour bus over to the marina where we boarded the Ali'i Kai Dinner Cruise. It was actually a "party boat" that puttered around the bay, with great views of the city, Diamond Head, sunset.....all you can eat boofay and free beer. Lots of Asian tourists doing the Macarena. It was fun!
(P.S. I found out why Hawaiians call everyone "cousin" - its because we all have the same Uncle Sam! LOL)
